On January 1, 2024, the MTI at RWTH Aachen was transferred from the former Chair of Manufacturing Process Technology at the WZL into an independent institute. This opens up new scope for further professional and organizational development and strengthens production research at the Aachen location.
Our demands on the production of the future
Our aim at the Manufacturing Technology Institute – MTI at RWTH Aachen is to actively shape the transformation process towards future-proof, digitally networked and sustainable production. As one of the largest production technology institutes, we see ourselves as having a responsibility to strengthen industrial value creation with a clear focus on economic efficiency, sustainability and resilience and in this way make our contribution to a future worth living.
R&D partner for the manufacturing industry
As part of our research activities, we primarily address the production of key components and products from the future and growth markets of mobility and energy, medical technology and mechanical and plant engineering. With academic foresight and many years of expertise from working with industrial companies, we combine the latest approaches to digitalizing production with a variety of manufacturing processes along almost all technology readiness levels (TRL) in our state-of-the-art machine park. This strong application focus simultaneously provides feedback and impulses for new, fundamental research questions and ensures that research and teaching at the MTI are always geared towards current technological developments and the industry's need for action.
Qualification and springboard for young academics
Our research and development work also forms the basis for high-quality academic teaching in the bachelor's and master's degree programs at RWTH Aachen. With our strong practical focus from day one, we qualify future production engineers for the manufacturing industry or for a further scientific career. In our further training programs, technology working groups and international collaborative projects, we promote exchanges with specialists from the participating companies and thus make a further contribution to the active transfer of our young talents into industry.
