Automation and Production Technology for versatile production
The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Stade is presenting its current R&D portfolio “Automation and Production Technology” at EMO 2025 in Hannover, Germany. More economical and efficient processes through automation make it possible to compensate for cost pressure and a shortage of skilled workers in production across all industries. For this purpose, conventional industrial robots with comparatively low investment costs and small space requirements as well as own robot developments are used which enable new high-precision and flexible applications by combining them with sensor technology or artificial intelligence, for example.
The focus is on versatile production for the adaptive assembly and processing of large lightweight structures in industries such as aircraft construction, commercial vehicle construction, rail vehicle construction, shipbuilding and the energy sector. The constantly growing fields of activity range from mobile robotics to human-robot cooperation and production-internal logistics.
Approximately 4000 sqm of hall space and several technology platforms for the processing and assembly of large structures are available at the Research Center CFK NORD in Stade for the development of Smart Factory technologies and automated processes on a 1:1 scale according to customer-specific individual production requirements.
The portfolio of the Fraunhofer IFAM in Stade comprises modular technology components that can be combined with each other in a modular system to guarantee, for example, highest precision, maximum flexibility, comprehensive data management or optimum use of resources, depending on requirements.
Thanks to pioneering approaches in digitalization and offline programming, new possibilities for process design are also being driven forward.
EMO 2025 – New type of machining robot closes the gap between classic industrial robots and machine tools
At EMO 2025, Fraunhofer IFAM in Stade, Germany, together with its R&D partners autonox Robotics GmbH and Siemens AG, is presenting for the first time a new type of machining robot that closes the gap between conventional industrial robots and machine tools.
For resource-efficient, flexible automated production, the globally unique, newly developed milling kinematics enable versatile, efficient and high-precision machining of fiber composites to aluminum and up to tempered steels – thus ensuring maximum precision and dynamics in the production of tomorrow.
